The sole purpose is to enable you to make an informed decision about a particular travel destination, and to help you prepare adequately for what may be encountered on your trip. In the United States, travel alerts and warnings are issued by the Department of State and are often called warden messages. It’s a good habit to check before you depart on your vacation.
Travel Alerts: Per the State Department, “an alert is issued when the government recognizes short-term events they think you need to be aware of when visiting a country. Temporary situations, such as a disease outbreak or a public demonstration, are among the things that could lead to a travel alert”.
Travel Warnings: This is a long or ongoing issue such as civil war or a rise in crime.
Before traveling abroad, simply take a few minutes to check the travel advisory for your intended destination. Please remember that conditions can rapidly change at any time in any country so always take precautions as best you can. Travel Advisory: Important or Not Important? In my opinion, it is important and that’s why you should never travel abroad without enrolling into STEP and never travel without Travel Insurance. The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals traveling and living abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. The benefits of enrolling include:
- Receive important information from the Embassy about safety conditions in your destination country, helping you make informed decisions about your travel plans.
- Help the U.S. Embassy contact you in an emergency, whether natural disaster, civil unrest, or family emergency.
- Help family and friends get in touch with you in an emergency.
I want you and I to stay connected, informed and safe!
