Lost Passport While Traveling? How to not let it ruin your Vacation!

Blog on what to do if you lost your passport while traveling

No one expects to lose their passport while traveling and definitely don’t expect their passport to get stolen. We live in a world where anything is possible so it’s important to always plan ahead and be prepared for emergencies.

Always keep a second form of identification you just in case your passport is lost or stolen. Once you realize your passport is gone then immediately file a police report. After, you should alert your cruise ship or hotel or resort by giving them a copy of your police report and providing a second form of identification.

Before your international travel, follow the below 5 steps:

  1. Don’t leave home without having Travel Insurance.
  2. Keep an emergency use only credit/debit card and emergency use only cash on you.
  3. Purchase and keep a passport card and keep it in your wallet, cross-body purse or money belt.
  4. Keep a color copy of your passport in your email and your cell phone.
  5. Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program which is a free service for U.S. citizens and nationals who are traveling or living abroad. STEP allows you to enter information about your trips abroad so that the Department of State, via our embassies and consulates, can better assist you in an emergency. You can also subscribe to receive email updates with travel advisories and other information for a particular country.

Be advised that your cruise ship may not allow you to re-board if you don’t have any identification on you because they have no way to prove you are who you say you are. If this happens then contact the nearest embassy or consulate.
